How to Choose a Vase for a Narrow Entryway Console

Start with the things that land on your console every day. Put down your keys, a bag and the mail where you normally leave them. The space left over tells you more about the right vase than the width of the table alone.

Open the printable vase fit card (1-page PDF). Print it and fill in the measurements by hand, or follow the steps below.

Will this vase fit? Check your measurements

Leave your keys and everyday items in place. Measure the remaining rectangular space and the vase, including handles or an outer frame. Use the same unit for all four values.

This checks rectangular clearance only. Try reaching past the arrangement with your bag and check the vase on the actual surface.

Test the footprint with paper

Mark the usable area on a sheet of paper. Leave space behind the vase for a mirror or picture frame, and check that a sleeve or bag strap can pass without catching a stem. Compare the widest part of the vase with this area, including any outer frame.

Let the outline do some of the work

A single branch makes the silhouette of a framed vase easy to see. Try turning the frame slightly until its edge separates from the lines of the mirror. If the branches hide the frame, remove one stem before adding another.

Choose a frame before choosing a size

Our amber glass and wood vase comes in Drop and Wave frames, each in Small and Large. Choose the outline you want, then compare measurements with the paper template. If the fit is close, contact us for the dimensions of that exact option before ordering.

For fresh stems, lift the arrangement away from mail and electronics while filling it. Keep water inside the glass and dry splashes on the wooden surround.
